One day, Joe the scientists was searching for some bananas to eat. He got lost. After hours off confusion, he came upon a tree full of bananas. "Mmm", Joe thought, "I think I'll climb this tree."
After making it up about half way, a screaming mass of fur jumped down on him. "Aaah!'' Once things calmed down, he found out if was only a monkey! Joe said hi. Surprisingly, the monkey called back, "Hi my name's Sammy." Sammy looked at Joe thoughtfully. "Something looks wrong with you, Joe!" Sammy thought for a few minutes than leaped up and hit Joe in the face. "I've got it, you don't know how to multiply decimals, do you?" "I'm sorry, but I don't!" "Here, let me teach you!"
So, one of your problems for your math homework says to multiply 2 decimals together, and you have n clue how to do it. You've come to the right place.
This may sound weird, but when you multiply decimals the first few steps you completely forget about the decimals. I suggest writing the problem over without decimals, shown below
Now, you will multiply like you regularly do, shown below.
Now, you have 33,117 for an answer. You're still not finished yet, you have to add the decimal points. You count how many decimal places there are in the problems. So, 3.99 has 2 decimal places (.99) and 8.3 has 1 decimal place (.3) 1 plus 2 = 3, so you put the decimal point 3 places over. Your final answer is 33.117.
