Properties of Multiplication with Froodle the Chicken
One day Joe was walking through the jungle, looking for someone to teach him more multiplication so he could leave this crazy place. When he was about to go to sleep, a chicken randomly jumped out of a bush near him. A chicken in the jungle? Joe thought to himself.
The chicken’s name was Froodle. It was born cross-eyed and lived on a farm. One day it went exploring and ended up in this jungle.
“I will teach you the properties of multiplication. It will help you multiply and get out of the jungle. If you want to learn, stay here and I'll show you.
“The commutative property of multiplication means that no matter what order you put the numbers in, when you are multiplying, you always end up with the same answer.”
“An example is 5x6x7=210 and 7x6x5=210.”
“The associative property of multiplication says that when the grouping of the factors or parenthesis is changed, the answer always stays the same.”
“An example is 2x(3x4)=24 and 3x(4x2)=24”
“The multiplication identity property of multiplication says that the product of any number and one is that number.”
“An example is 5x1=5”
“The zero property of multiplication means that any number times zero has a product of zero.”
“An example is 4x0=0”
“The distributive property of multiplication says that the sum of two numbers multiplied by the third is the same as multiplying both the first and the second by the third and adding the products together.”
“An example is 4x(6+3)=36 and 4x6 + 4x3=36”
