Italy had three competitors at the first Olympic events. The names of the two athletes are Trissino and Di Modrone. Trissino competed twice in the high jump. Di Modrone competed in the long jump and jumping, and appears to have competed in the high jump twice as well.

Italy has competed at most of the modern Summer Olympic Games, missing only the 1904 Summer Olympics. The nation was one of 13 to compete at the 1896 Summer Olympics.

 

Italy was the host nation for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. It was the second time that Italy had hosted the Winter Games after the 1956 Winter Olympics.
