bone

What am I? I am the building blocks of the body. If the body was a store I would be what you call a manager, because I sort of keep everything together! I ‘m made up of a spongy inner layer called cancellous and a hard outer layer called cortical. Really, it is made out of calcified connective tissue.
I help you in many ways. What can I say? I am a giver! I protect your organs, help your body withstand the pressure of gravity, help you make more blood make it possible to move and lastly hold your minerals. These minerals are calcium, phosphorus, potassium, manganese, magnesium, iron, silica, zinc, selenium, boron, sulfur, chromium and much, much more.
No matter what, I’m always older than you! You see I start growing even before you are born. At first I'm cartilage then I harden and become real tough. This is the process of ossification. If you didn’t guess, I am the bone!
