What is an AC joint dislocation?
AC joint is a joint at the top of the shoulder, which connects the collar bone to the shoulder. AC joint dislocation is when the collar bone and shoulder are separated. This happens most commonly with a fall landing on the side of the shoulder. This commonly happens in contact sports such as football, hockey, rugby, and wrestling.

What are the symptoms?
Pain at the top of the shoulder, a lump at top of shoulder which represents the collar bone sticking up away from the joint.
What is the treatment?
Initial treatment – PRICE (protection, rest, ice, compression, elevation)with use of a sling followed by PT. Most cases heal on their own, leaving a painless lump on the top of the shoulder. Severe cases require surgery to relocate the joint
