Ecosystem-a system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their physical environment                                     dictionary.com

An ecosystem is always changing. The living part of an ecosystem is sometimes called a food chain. Every participant in an ecosystem has an important part to play and if one becomes more dominant than the others, the ecosystem can develop problems. Ecosystems will fail if they do not remain in balance. A salt water aquarium is a contained ecosystem.  This system is dependent on proper maintenance to stay in balance just like coral reefs in the ocean. The difference is that nature maintains the ocean corals and people maintain our aquarium.  Nature is a great caretaker. Ocean corals will usually flourish unless people interfere.  Follow the links below to find out how ocean corals are being destroyed and how we can help save coral reefs.
