Graffiti- Gangs in general always have either a logo, number, slogan, or color to represent where they are from. Gang members or gangs like to use graffiti to show the other rival gangs that they are in their terrain and not to interfere with their neighborhoods turf. Graffiti can include the gang name the individual gang member’s nickname or threats to other rival gangs. However graffiti is does not always have to be affiliated in a gang, it can be affiliated with “taggers.” Graffiti can be very simple to just a number or very complex or artistic drawings.

Hand signs- Hand signs are another common way to identify a gang member. The hand sign usually symbolizes the name of the gang that an individual is in. Habitually these hand signs are words or numbers they throw up at other gangs when they are asked or when they see rival gang members.

Personal Characteristics- the personality of a gangster seems to play a substantial role in the characteristic of the individual’s everyday life. Such characteristics like the walk a gangster has can be an approach to ones judging to identify a gang member. Another characteristic would be the choice of vocabulary that a gang member has most gang members have a lot of slang in there vocabulary and seem to cut off all there words and have key words to some things. Gangsters also seem to have a careless attitude because of previous family problems that pressures them to their choices that they make.
