Nickname: "Uncle John" Died: May 9, 1864 Place of Death: Spotsylvania, Virginia Interesting Facts: Sedgwick was insulting the Confederates by saying that they "couldn't hit an elephant at a this distance", while he was in the battle of Spotsylvania. One second later a sniper's bullet hit him right under his left eye, killing him.
