Full Name: William Dorsey Pender Born: February 6, 1834 Place of Birth: Edgecomb City, North Carolina North or South: South Other Professions: Clerk, duty on the Pacific coast, resigned March 1861. War Service Highlights: He commanded Pender’s Division/third Corps. Pender began his service in the war as a Captain and then he was promoted to Colonel and then Brigadier General in 1862. He was later made a Major General in May of 1863. He fought during the Seven Days Battles, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. Pender Nickname: None Died: July 18, 1863 Place of Death: Staunton, Virginia Interesting Facts: He was one of the best fighters in the Army of Northern Virginia. He was the youngest General killed at Gettysburg at age 29.
