Hello and welcome to our site on Civil War Battlefield Preservation. While working on a project about
the American Civil War, we discovered that an alarming number of Civil War Battlefields are in danger of being lost forever.
This prompted us to join the Civil War Preservation Trust in soliciting help to save our nation's heritage.
This site is comprised of almost 1,500 individual web pages, 425 picture files, 30 sound files, 12 JavaScript files and 7 movies. We also participated in 31 activities, field trips and reenactments. It was a massive undertaking, and still only scratches the surface of this fascinating subject. It is estimated that the American Civil War is one of the most written about subjects, so we attempted to provide infomation that will make different aspects of the conflict understandable. We hope this website will prove a valuable asset to anyone who is interested in this topic. This should prove especially useful to students doing research on these topics. What school-age child is not fascinated by this subject? After completely viewing and interacting with this site, students should be able to discuss some of the social and political issues that people confronted during the Civil War, use the accompanying links to locate additional sources for further enrichment and discuss the issues and their reactions to those issues from multiple perspectives.
Please join us on our journey from the first shot fired at Fort Sumter to the surrender at Appomattox Court House. Along the way, you will learn about some famous events and the people involved. You will also learn how to become involved in the attempt to preserve our nation's hallowed ground and perhaps become involved in reenacting as we did. You will also learn about some of the reasons the war happened, some of its consequences and maybe even have some fun. Sit back and enjoy. The battle has begun...
