Full Name: Richard Stoddert Ewell Born: February 8, 1817 Place of Birth: Georgetown, D.C. North or South: South Other Professions: Ewell was in the Mexican War and he resigned in 1861, He later became a farmer. War Service Highlights: Ewell served in the Confederacy as a Lieutenant and then became a Colonel. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1861. In 1862, he earned the rank of Major General. He served at First Bull Run, and then he fought through the seven day battles and at Cedar Mountain. Ewell fell off of his horse during the battle of Bloody Angle and he could not serve any longer. Nickname: None Died: Januray 25, 1872 Place of Death: Spring Hill, Tennessee Interesting Facts: He was known for fighting until he had nothing left. He fought and rode his horse even when he had a wooden leg, but he fell off his horse making him even more disabled.
