He was made a brigadier general and commanded troops in the Army of the Potomac. A.P. Hill was one of the most successful commanders of Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia serving as a Major General. A.P. Hill troops were known as the Light Division. His troops fought in the Seven Days Battles, Cedar Mountain, Second Bull Run, Antietam, and Fredericksburg. He was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1863.
