what are we doing

On the international level, there have been a number of efforts to address a problem of global warming. This effort has primary been in the form of reducing a level of carbon dioxide emission a country contributes to the atmosphere. In 1992 mostly developed countries agreed to work stabilizing their greenhouse emission at 1990 levels by 2000. In the last decade, however, it was clear that most countries including the biggest contributors (US and European Union) were failing short of achieving the goal.

From then, there had been other efforts such as Kyoto Protocol which called on all wealthy nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6-8 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-12.The US has refused to sign the Protocol.

“.Merely slowing the rate of carbon emissions by a paltry 5.2% will not stop the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which means global warming and climate change cannot be address by the Kyoto Protocol.” Adapted from CAPE TIMES Wednesday, march 28 2007.

On national and local level, many countries, organizations and individuals are working on creating awareness and education on global warming. The organizations are working on reduction of fossil fuel but that will not work unless the big contributors are agreeing to the Protocol.

our opinion

We have tried to educate our community members who increase the green house gases we tried to make them aware of the consequences of oncreasing these gases .Our government is also trying to decrease the amount of gases emitted to our atmosphere by selling equipment that uses less electricity .
