Overview

Chinese herb tea has been listed as a cultural heritage of China in February 2006. It is a kind of tea in Guangdong which is made from Chinese medicinal herbs. Due to the sub-tropical climate in Guangdong, the weather is always hot and humid. People boil herbs, which had the effect of cooling according the Chinese pharmacology, to drink. The herb tea can relieve the discomfort caused by the damp and hot weather, as well as curing diseases. It is then developed into the Chinese herb tea now (also call 'Liang Cha' in Cantonese which means cool tea).

The traditional Chinese herb tea was home-made without any addictive and flavoring, so the tea had the tastes of its original herbs which is usually bitter or slightly sweet. This special feature is not able to be found in the tea sold by large companies nor the tea sealed in bottles in Hong Kong nowadays.
