“IM-Speak”: instant messaging talk; a type of internet slang. Terms originated with the purpose of saving keystrokes, ie “lol” stands for “laughing out loud”

Social networking sites: websites which allow users to post profiles, pictures, and network with others via the internet

 

FPS: First Person Shooter, a style of game where you are looking through a first person view, only seeing your gun in front of you. Popular FPS titles include Killzone, Halo and Gears of War.

 

Gears of War (GoW): Popular FPS released for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 video game console. Developed by Epic Games.

 

Halo: Multi-million copy selling FPS series created by Bungie Studios for Microsoft’s Xbox and Xbox 360 systems.

 

PS3: Abbreviation for Sony’s PlayStation 3.
