Singapore Prison School is a school specially catered towards
offenders sentenced to prison. Teaching those who proved to
be repentant enough to receive further education while serving
their sentence, the Singapore Prison School aims to provide
them with educational qualifications to help them reintergrate
into the society as well as help them gain self-discipline,
self motivation and the spirit of learning through carefully
planned programmes and courses. Most of the inmates earned
the privilege to study in the school as their sevice in jail
drew closer to an end.
Here, we would explore the programmes offered by the school as well as their strategies in dealing with the inmates. We would also explore some of the teachers' views about the students to gather more insight as to what these delinquents are really like and to understand them better.
Philosophy & Mission
The prison school believes that everybody
should be given a second chance. They believe in providing
opportunities for the inmates to lead a normal life and serve
the society with conviction. They also believe that education
has an important part to play in the rehabilitation process.
As such, the prison school was built to provide a carefully
structured circulum to the inmates to help promote qualities
like self-motivation, self-discipline and the spirit of learning,
with their motto being "Rebuilding Lives and Awakening
System & Culture
