Rome is the capital city of Italy. It is located in the central-western region of the Italian peninsula where the Aniene River joins the Tiber River. According to the legend, Rome was founded by the twin brothers Romulus and Remus on April 23 753 B.C. According to archaeological evidence Rome was occupied around the 8th century. Rome is famous for the catholic churches and their popes and is also partly responsible for the spread of Greco-Roman which is still present till date. Now, Rome is a cosmopolitan and completely modern. Rome has a normal Mediterranean climate. Two of the main religions are that of Judaism and Christianity. The whole of Rome used to first speak in Latin and they slowly started to speak Italian during the middle ages. Now a days most of the citizens can understand and speak English.

Vatican City is a small state in Rome and is an independent state of the Holy See and is the smallest place in the whole world. Rome basically surrounds the Vatican City. The open space in front of St. Peters and Basilica was redesigned so that everyone can get the blessings of the pope.

Music is very popular in Rome. They have built many concert halls and an opera house called “Teatro dell'Opera di Roma”. The main region for concert halls is in Parco Della Music. They hosted the MTV Europe music awards in 2004.

They also enjoy participating in sports events such as the Olympics. They hosted the 1960 summer Olympics and are officially going to hold the 2016 summer Olympics. Football is the most popular sport in Rome. It hosted the 1990 FIFA world cups in the “Studio Olympico”. Bruno Conti and Giuseppe Giannini are two of the players from Rome. Rugby is another loved sport. Most of these games are played in “Studio Flaminio”. Some of the other sports are cycling, water polo and basketball.

Rome is also famous for its architecture and arts. One of the most famous amphitheaters built in the Roman Empire is the Colosseum. It was used for the gladiators battle. It was initially able to seat 50,000 viewers.
