Nadia's Diary
What we did: Today we rode on an antique school bus. The horse pulled it. We rode on gravel, grass, and the road. We saw a HUGE house being built. We also saw a lot of blackberries. One camper found a tiny tree frog.

What we learned: I learned that the back pair of an old school bus’s wheels are very big. They’re bigger than the front wheels. I also learned that old buses have no backs, and most have three seats. It is hard for the old bus to go downhill.
What I liked most: I liked making custard. We made the custard as the first step in making ice cream.
First, we took a big pot and put it on the hot stove. Then we took a cup of cream and two cups of milk. We mixed them together and then stirred. Next we measured some sugar and it went into the pot with a tablespoon of vanilla extract. We kept on stirring. It had to be thick before we did our next step. Finally, it was thick enough.
We took out a strainer and poured the custard through it. There were a few bits of egg, milk, and a few other things in the strainer. After that we put a cap on the bowl holding the mixture. Finally, we put the bowl in the refrigerator to chill. We will make it into ice cream tomorrow. And we get to us the ice cream machine!
What I liked least: I did not enjoy emptying the Japanese beetle traps. The traps were tanks that beetles could go in but not out. The beetles flew everywhere. We had to dunk them in water so they couldn’t fly. We had to feed them to the chickens, but some of the beetles escaped.
