Introduction

Home

This website was created to explain how farmers farm organically and what you do to farm organically. As you will learn, it is hard to grow vegetables or raise animals organically. Our website translates information that we learned into information that kids can actually understand. Much of the information about organics on the Internet is complicated and hard for kids to understand.

Our site's motto is "Think Globally, Act Locally". To us this means that you think on a large scale but act on a small scale. This may mean the choices you make in your life can have a larger effect. On this site, for example, you will learn the difference between organic, natural and conventional foods, and this knowledge might help you decide what kind of food you want to buy.

Some websites take all of their text and pictures from other websites. We took all of our pictures ourselves (with a few exceptions) and learned most of our information by visiting farms and growing our own garden. In this sense, our website is organic, because it was mostly made from self-experiences. And it definitely has no pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, hormones, or antibiotics used on it.

We organized our site into seven categories:

Organic Basics: Have you ever tried to grow something organically? It is very hard work. You have to know what you can use or give your plants and animals because of strict organic rules. In this section you will learn how to truly become organic.

Farm Diaries: Have you ever been to a farm camp? It is a lot of fun, and we learned how to care for organic plants and animals. In the end, the work really paid off because we got to go fishing in the pond. Read all about it here.

Garden Diary: Growing a garden takes a lot of time. You have to put up with weeds bugs and animals that want to eat your garden. Even if you survive these pests the garden might not turn out good. Still it is a lot of fun growing a garden.

Interviews: Have you ever asked a farmer about organic or natural farming? We did, and we learned many interesting things about what the farmers like and do on their farms. They also told us about organic and natural farming.
Farms Visited: What are farms like in Germany or Hawaii? We visited farms there and in the United States. We learned many interesting facts about how these farms either organically or naturally grow plants or raise animals.
