Organic Basics

Organic Basics: Introduction

In this section you'll learn reasons to buy organic food, about the life of an organic animal, about organic costs, about garden pests, and about what organic food is. We divided this section into eight subsections:

What is Organic: Basically, organic farming does not allow pesticides, herbicides, hormones, and antibiotics.
Buying Organic: Some people buy organic food from large stores, and others from small farm stores. Buying from small stores supports these stores. Plus, the food you get from these local stores is fresh.
Why Buy Organic: Organic food can help the world in many ways. Though some people are not sure if organic food is healthier than conventional food.
Organic Animals: An organic animal is an animal that is fed only organically grown feed. Organic animals are treated differently from factory farmed ones.

Soil: Soil is a key part to farming. Good soil will make plants healthy and strong.

Bugs: Nature gives farmers good things and bad things. Bugs can be good--or bad.

Cost: Organic food usually costs more than conventionaly grown food for a lot of reasons.

Survey Comments: We conducted a survey to see if people bought and thought organics were better than conventional foods. These are the results.
