Garden Diary--August

AUGUST

The plants are doing quite well. We have tomatoes, bell peppers, chile peppers, and even a corn stalk. With proper care, these plants will probably be able to make the tomatoes and chiles red. Also, I never know that bell peppers could be black. My mom first thought they were eggplants.

Wild plants and animals also come with purposely planted plants. The toad below probably moved into the garden because the cracks in the garden wall were the perfect home. Plus he would get to eat the growing food. The blackberries probably were there before the garden.

My favorite part of gardening is harvesting the food. This is only a bit of what we picked from the garden. The tomatoes have turned ruby red. Tasty. The early yellow squashes have come early. The carrots are small but good. And the peppers are spicy. There’s only one problem. I try to pick the ripe vegetables to eat, but the bugs eat them first. We’ll have to deal with it.
