The Gamecube

The fourth videogame that the Nintendo Company created was the Gamecube. It was owned by Sixth Generation Era. The Gamecube was actually the least expensive console to be sold. It was put in stores on September 14, 2001 in Japan. It was then later sold worldwide. This console was first shown to the world during Spaceworld 2000. The people who made this console thought it would be more attractive if it was shaped like a 3-D cube. This “cube” can be purchased in indigo, platinum, and black anywhere in the world. It can only be purchased in orange, Crystal white, Mint green, Copper, and zebra stripes in Japan.

A Gamecube costs $99.99 unless it is on sale. Gamecubes use a different disc than other consoles. This disc is about 8cm across and can hold 1.5 gigabites. People believe that a Gamecube reads a game disc like a TV would read a DVD. It does however, have a barcode but like most things it eventually cracks. Now buyers are able to connect the Gamecube to their computers and run something called Hombrew Programming which could help get rid of its flaws.

A normal Gamecube cannot play movies or DVDs. The reasons for this is are that they did not want to get in trouble for remaking the DVD player, they want to make the games work faster, to sell it for cheaper, and to keep the disc small. Since you can’t watch DVDs on the Gamecube people didn’t like it as much because you could watch DVDs or games on the Playstation or X-box. As time went on many more consoles could play DVDs and games too. Despite their idea to not use DVDs, a lot of modchips have been made so when used with codes they can use 8cm DVDR to load copied software. Also there was another console called the Q which was basically a Gamecube that could play DVDs or play games. Although it never made it to stores, it was still a cool product. They stopped making the Q in December, 2003.

Gamecubes can also hook up to a GameboyAdvance or SP. It can hook up to a Micro too but it needs a different plug for it to work because the other plug is too big. This lets you play the Gamecube game on your Gameboy! When this happens you control the TV screen on your Gameboy. Sometimes it will show instructions on your Gameboy. People use this to unlock secrets such as a secret level or a new character. Four Gameboys can be plugged into the Gamecube at a time so you can play with three other friends. If you want to play with four people you will need four plugs. Many Gamecube games have a mode where you can do this but not all games have this mode. The Gamecube was supposed to be portable since it was small and it had a handle. But nobody really cared because it was cheap and fun. Strangely because it could be played on your Gameboy it was an almost perfect 3-D cube. It was smaller than the Playstation and Playstation 2 but it had better graphics and better sound but the game disc was not read as well.

The Gamecube has a menu that can be seen by holding down the “A” button while the Gamecube is starting up or turning the power on without a disc in it. This menu has memory card data, a calendar, and sound options. The Gamecube controller has a control pad, a control stick, and some buttons such as “A”,”B”, “X”, “Y”, “Z”, “L”, and “R”. It also has the Start/Pause button. Like a Nintendo 64 controller it has no select button but the “E” buttons have been replaced with a camera stick. You cannot click the analog sticks and the “L” and “R” can detect weight before you click these buttons.

Over 600 Gamecube games have been created for the Gamecube and 25 are in the process of being made. Some of the most popular games for the console are Animal Crossing, Mario Party, Pikmin and Pikmin 2. A few of the first games were Super Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.
