William Lloyd
Garrison was a person who did not believe in slavery. When he
was in Baltimore, the owner of a ship sued him because of libel,
which means a false publication. The owner of the ship was transporting
slaves, and since Garrison did not believe in slavery, he told
the man that he was a highway robber and a murderer; as a result
he was convicted and was put in jail for six months. He only stayed
in prison for seven weeks because money was donated to him to
pay his fine. |
