There were almost 500,000 slaves. There had been a new colonized island in France and it was named Saint Domingue in the 1700s. The slaves that were located in Saint Domingue went against their masters in France while the French Revolution was taking place. Toussaint L’Ovuerture was a former slave. He controlled the government by restoring some order to the country after the slaves wrecked plantations and towns.
