Harriet Beecher
Stowe arrived on earth June 14, 1811. She was born in Litchfield,
Connecticut. Her father was a reverend and her mother died when
she was five. Harriet became known when she illustrated a book
by the name of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. “Uncle
Tom’s Cabin” was the best seller of its time. It remained
a bestseller in the United States, England, Europe and Asia. Harriet
even had “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” translated into
60 different languages. She was inspired to write “Uncle
Tom’s Cabin” by the Fugitive Slave Act, which was
passed in 1850. The novel sold more than 10,000 copies just in
the first week. After Harriet Beecher Stowe published this novel
she became popular author. |
