Biography - Harry

Name: Harry
Nationality: Australian
Age: 16
Role: Translator (Greek)

HarryHello! My name is Harry and I am a 16-year-old Australian of Greek descent.  I live with my parents, my brother (Kosta) and my sister (Katerina) in Adelaide, the fifth-largest city in Australia. I go to Adelaide High School, which is considered by the general population to be one of the best public high schools in South Australia, and I have to agree.  They have a wide selection of courses to choose from and I am currently studying English Studies, Mathematical Studies, Specialist Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics in my final year of high school.  In my spare time, I  am a member of a local Greek dancing group, and really enjoy dressing up in the full traditional Greek costume when we perform.

I got involved with ThinkQuest through Tina, who has participated as a coach and as a judge during previous ThinkQuest competitions.  She knew I could speak Greek, so she asked me if I would join the team and become our translator.  I am so glad I said yes because I am very grateful for the opportunity to meet such wonderful people from all over the world, and to gain knowledge about all kinds of things, relating not only to time, but also to foreign cultures and lifestyles.

My job on the team was to translate all articles written by Taylor and Chrissy (what wonderful writers they are!) into Greek. What a job that turned out to be! I had no idea there would be as many articles to translate (over 70 in all) when I joined the team.  The more we communicated, the more the site (and my translation duties) grew.  However, I know we all feel that, now that it is over and we look back at what we accomplished, all the hard work we put in was certainly worth it.

I would like to thank my coaches - Mr. P and Tina, my team leader - Kishore, the girls who kept feeding me articles to translate - Taylor and Chrissy, and the best web designers and programmers in the business - David and Ruohan for letting me share this adventure with them.  I've learned so much from them and from this whole experience. It has all been quite unforgettable.
