Colonel Harland Sanders
Kentucky Fried Chicken, more commonly known as KFC,
is an internationally known fast food company. It originated from one man
and his secret recipe of eleven herbs and spices. His recipe is one of the
best kept secrets in the world, and this secret is the recipe to one of the
best tasting fried chickens in the world.
It all
started in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The creator of KFC is Colonel Harland
Sanders. He first served his fried chicken during the Great Depression, at a
gas station that he owned in Corbin, Kentucky. After his first few servings
of chicken, he started to sell his chicken at restaurants and motels. He
decided to expand his fried chicken business by selling to travelers by the
highway leading to Florida. In 1950’s, Sanders sold his properties and begin
to travel the USA to sell some of his chicken to restaurant owners. The
first person to take him up his chicken recipe was Pete Harman in south Salt
Lake, Utah. Together they opened the world’s first KFC outlet in 1952.
In 1964 Sander sold the KFC franchising for $2
million. Ever since he sold the KFC franchising, the business has changed.
The most recent buy was by PepsiCo. In 1991, the company thought that
Kentucky Fried Chicken sounded too unhealthy so they renamed their fast food
company to KFC.
