Welcome to our pages on the Seven Wonders of the World. During our research, we found that there are a number of different lists. For example, Wikipedia contains seven different lists (which is very appropriate!) These are:

  • The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
  • The Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages
  • Modern Wonders
  • Tourist Travel Wonders
  • Natural Wonders
  • Underwater Wonders
  • The New Seven Wonders of the World

However, when people talk about "The Seven Wonders of the World" they are usually talking about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and more information about this can be found below.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
  1. The Great Pyramid of Giza
  2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
  3. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
  4. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
  5. The Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus
  6. The Colossus of Rhodes
  7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

Unfortunately, the Great Pyramid of Giza is the only one of these wonders still standing. The others have been destroyed by either earthquakes or fires.

The Great Pyramid of Giza measured 146.6 metres (480.9 feet) tall when it was built in 2570 BC. It was the world's tallest building until 1300 AD, when the spire of Lincoln Cathedral was constructed.

There are many theories about exactly how the Great Pyramid was constructed, but it is amazing to think that the pyramid is made up of over 2 million stone blocks all of which had to be quarried, cut, transported and laid, all without today's modern machinery.
