Seven in Science and Nature

As you may have already found out from some of our other pages, the number seven is everywhere. Science and Nature is no exception.

The Seven-spot Ladybird is a common sight in the UK around February and March each year. They live in meadows, gardens and hedgerows and feed on aphids, larvae and pollen from winter flowering plants.

There are Seven States of matter in the universe:

  1. Solid
  2. Liquid
  3. Gas
  4. Plasma
  5. Beam
  6. Bose-Einstein Condensate (zero matter)
  7. Thought Wave

There are 7 major plates in the Lithosphere (the outer crust of the Earth's surface) and several smaller ones.

Below are the seven colours of the rainbow:

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Indigo
  • Violet
