Seven In History

Like many of the other sections on our site, seven is everywhere when it comes to the subject of History. Here are just a few examples:

  • Babylonians, Egyptians and other ancient people believed there were 7 sacred planets.
  • In Egyptian history there are 7 fates; Ra had 7 hawks representing the 7 wise ones.
  • There are 7 houses to the underworld.
  • Ancient Egyptians believed that 7 was also the sacred number of Osiris.
  • Alchemists worked with 7 metals.
  • There are 7 wonders of the ancient world
  • In Sumerian history, there are seven lunar divisions and seven days of the week.
  • The number 7 was considered to be sacred by ancient peoples in the East and West.
  • Rome is built on 7 hills.
  • There was even a war called the Seven Years War

Seven is found a lot in history; maybe this is because people believed it is a lucky number and, for example, if they built Rome on 7 hills, the city of Rome would be considered lucky. Nobody knows for sure.

What is certain is that the number seven is all around us, in our past and, it must be assumed, it will be in our future as well.
