Seven in Culture

Seven is everywhere around us. It can be seen throughout our culture, below are some examples.

  • Japanese pagoda’ traditionally have 7 stories, representing the 7 stages of reaching heaven,
  • There are seven notes in the ‘Do Re Mi’ musical scale.

Seven in Religion

The number 7 appears often in Christian Bible, some of them are:

  • 7 days of creation.
  • Noah's Ark landed in the seventh month.
  • Noah sent out the dove on the seventh day.
  • 7 priests with 7 trumpets marched around Jericho.
  • Samson’s wedding feast lasted for 7 days.

There are seven pillars of wisdom in Shi'ite Islam. These are:

  1. Walayah (love and devotion) for Allah, the Prophets, the imam and the dai
  2. Taharah (purity & cleanliness)
  3. Salah (prayers)
  4. Zakah (purifying religious dues)
  5. Sawm (fasting)
  6. Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca )
  7. Jihad ("struggle"
