For millions of years, big volcanoes of the Central Anatolian Plateau have erupted. These mighty explosions have killed lots of people but in return the soil is very soft and that is why Cappadocia is known as the land of beautiful horses. Millions of years ago people had no aluminum or metal to make pans. So they used soil because the soil was soft and flames could not affect them. The explosions of Hasan Dagi made the Fairy Chimneys. Fairy Chimneys attract lots of tourists. A long time ago, it was used for different purposes. People used the caves as their home. They still use these caves as warehouses. Greengrocers’ put their oranges in these caves. At first the oranges are about 20 kilos but when they take them out after a couple of months they are about 23-24 kilos. The reason is the humidity and heat make them juicier. I think as the climate is changing people will look for cool places for summer holidays. Even though the Cappadocia area is in the center of Turkey, in summer the weather is very warm. But inside the caves it is always cool. It is a very cultural, natural and historical place so please go and visit.
