- Axle - Macinery.the pin, bar, shaft, or the like which a wheel or a pair of wheels.
- Brick - plastic hollow blocks with "studs" on top that can be stacked on one another locking them together
- dBA - these are sounds your ear can hear.
- dB - these sounds include sounds too high or too low for human ears to hear.
- Gear - A toothed machine part, such as a wheel or cylinder, that meshes with another toothed machine part to transit motion or change speed or direction
- LEGO - A child‘s plastic construction set for making mechanical models. A Danish word which translates to "play well" and Latin word meaning "I put together" or "I assemble."
- Light Sensor - a sensor to give your robot vision. This sensor enables the robot to know the difference between light and dark.
- Motor ports - output ports for attaching motors. (NXT and RCX use ports A, B, and C).
- LIght grey arrows - Used for moving left and right in the NXT menu
- Robot - A machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command.
- Robotics - the science or study of technology associated with the design, fabrication, theory, and application of robots.
- Rotation Sensor - a sensor to let you control the robot's movements. One rotation is equal to 360 degrees; so 180 degress equals a half turn.
- Sensor - a device such as a photoelectric cell, that receives and responds to a signal or stimulus
- Sensor ports - input ports for attaching sensors. (NXT and RCX use ports 1, 2, 3, and 4).
- Servo Motors - motors that give a robot the ability to move around. These two motors work together to allow the robot to move in a straight line.
- Sound Sensor - detects both decibels (dB) and adjusted decibel (dBA). A decibel is a measurement of sound pressure.
- Touch Sensor - detects whether the robot has touched another object.
- Toy - An object, often a small representation of something familiar, as an animal or person, for children or others to play with.
- Ultrasonic Sensor - this sensor allows the robot to see and detect objects. Now you can make your robot avoid obstacles, sense and measure distance, and detect movement. It is able to measure distances from 0-255 cnetimeters witha precision of +/- 3 cm. It measures distance by calculation the time it takes for a sound wave to hit an object and return, like a bat's echolocation.
- USB port - connect a USB cable to the USB port and download programs from your computer to the NXT. YOu can also use the wireless Bluetooth connection for uploading and downloading. A tower is used to connect to the RCX.
- Wheel - A circular wheel or disc arranged to revolve on a axle, as on vehicles or machinery.
