As we said before at our grand parents's period most of the marriages were among one family and if not the match makers would find the spouse. the match makers had information about most of the families around them and they knew who was suitable for who. Since there was no phone, they played the role of the messengers too.
Sugar plums instead of sweets
Sometimes during the evening couple of groom's lady relatives would put sugar plums in bags and go to the bride's house and knock on the door and say , " Some one has given us your address and told us about your daughter". If the bride's parents wanted them to come in they would open the door and ask them to come in. Then the ladies would enter and say ," guests are here with blessings" and the bride's parents would answer, "The wind has brought the smell of flowers."
