Our team
Name: Eduard Age: 19 Status: 3-rd year student Job: Writing articles, translations, information searching, photo editing and debugging. A couple of words about me: I’m Eduard. I study applying linguistics at the Irkutsk State Linguistic University. I’m fond of computers and I really like any sorts of contests. I like creative people and I like amazing things they do. For me it’s a great honour to be one of those, who represent our University in this international competition. My personal experience has grown enormously – the level of the work we’ve done is higher than I could imagine. We had to make a team and create things in short period of time. That was a real fun. Extreme fun! Actually, I liked the feeling of rush, feeling of creating beauty, of arguing for the right decision. All these things make my life more interesting, more breath-taking and what is more – pretty unpredictable! That’s the way I like it!

Name: Sveta Age: 19 Status: 3-rd year student Job: Writing articles, translations, information searching. A couple of words about me: My name is Sveta, I’m 19. I study languages and informational technologies. This is the 2nd time I take part in TQ. Working over it this time was a great fun as well – not only because I got to know some new things concerning building sites, but also because I got acquainted with new people and we had a great time together. I like our topic a lot and I’m glad that it made me communicate with people from other countries, thus broading my outlook, improving knowledge of languages and so on. Actually for me this competition meant much from the point of view of new acquaintances and communication.

Name: Michael Age: 19 Status: 3-rd year student Job: Information searching and debugging. A couple of words about me: My name is Michael. I study at the technique academy, I learn electronics and instrumentation technology, I dreamed about it from my childhood. I’m also a tourist. I’m keen in different kinds of tourism, but most of all I’m fond of water tourism. I like music and moreover I play guitar myself a bit. Working over TQ project I’ve got acquainted to new people and found out many interesting things about the region. I think that such contests like TQ are really needed, because they offer the rare chance of revealing hidden potential of the youth of our nation. Such international competitions help to make friends all over the world among the students of your age. That’s pretty cool, I suppose.

Collaboration
Working over this project was a great time for all of us. The idea was challenging because dispelling different stereotypes is hard itself. One can usually see people coming to our region without the slightest idea of what it is in reality. So, our aim was to raise the image of it and help people more about it.
- First of all we formed a group to take part in the competition. The funny thing about it was that some of us didn’t know each other before, so we got acquainted during working over TQ.
- We’ve chosen the topic that we want to speak about. Our tutors proposed writing about our region, but we found it boring. Then we’ve made up our mind that probably it’d be absorbing to write about the stereotypes and prejudices about Siberia.
- We spent time gathering the material. We’ve decided that just naming facts or some figures wouldn't be interesting, so we've picked up the most absorbing and fabulous ones, like about skyscrapers or subcultures and so on.
- We of course couldn't relay on our ideas about stereotypes so we contacted people from different countries. We wrote e-mails to those whome we know and got acquainted with people from European as well as American countries.
- We had to go to our usual studies though. We met not regularly, because we live in different cities. So, we contacted by sending e-mails and samples of the layout as well as by chatting through the Internet.
- We had to change the layout and main chapters several times, because constantly there was something inappropriate rest. Thanks to these discussions we finally came to the current variant, which satisfied everybody.
- Last weeks were such a rush! We wanted to introduce masses of items into our site, but we were pressed in time. So, we had to abandon some other things that we had to do like courses or going out. But we still do not regret it!
Some recollections
- The most exciting was when some of was suggested this or that idea and we started developing it. Sometimes the idea itself changed beyond recognition after our discussion.
- We spent loads of time on our guide to make it comprehensible, clear and not boring. Hope it’s of any help and doesn’t bother users.
- What I’ll remember about TQ is Internet. I’ve never used chatting and e-mail so often and intensively before.
- Drawing was enjoyable. Inventing characters for our survival guide was challenging enough to take a lot of time and raise heated debates.
- The most weird thing is that some facts about Siberia were new for me, although I’ve been living there from my childhood. So, TQ turned out to be educative all the way.
- We’ve tried all our interactive stuff on our friends. We hope that it’ll be as gripping for them, as it appeared to us.
