Our diverse group is made of all seniors representing different countries: Ghana, Philippines and USA. Each of us has studied different languages and appreciates what each culture offers. Access to quick communication has helped the team stay updated on information and helped for our personal use.
We chose the topic of social networking because it affects our generation. An important aspect of the world today is communication, especially the speed of communication. Technology keeps improving which allows us to immediately inform people around the world. We researched the impact that social networking has on the world and concluded that without it the world would not be as advanced as it is now.
Most of our team was in the same Webmastering class. One of our team members transferred out of the class so we talked to him in other classes we had with him. Sitting next to each other was helpful because we were able to discuss what we read on sites and figure out what was important and what was unnecessary. Alex researched the topic by looking for updates on reliable web sites. Patrick designed the site by using Fireworks and Dreamweaver. Sheila created interactive visuals by using statistics and previous knowledge of mathematical trees.
We had problems with collaboration because of the lack of classes and resources. There weren’t many books to rely on but enough internet articles. Also, with one of our team members not easily accessible, we had to find out what he had accomplished as soon as possible.

As a senior of Filipino descent in high school, I try to do as much as I can at school and in the community. I am an active member in the BETA club, Mu Alpha Theta club, National Honors Society and Interact club and I represent my culture at various heritage functions. I am also an editor of the school year book, the school’s historian as well as one of the few webmasters of the current school web page. Being a professional photographer for Lifetouch Portraits is awesome for me because I love photography and capturing smiles. A few places I have visited are Italy, Austria, Philippines and Hawaii as a student delegate of either an ambassadorial team or club. In the future I plan to succeed as a businesswoman in either marketing or management and travel to different countries, especially Japan. My ambition for life is expressed through my passion for art, competitions and a deep curiosity.
I approached web design in a computer literacy class and have been enthralled with it ever since. Through my school, many organizations and individuals have approached me and other classmates to design or help with their websites/logos/photos. After high school, I plan to continue learning web design and graphic design. Besides editing, I focused on the flash and media because aesthetics and interactivity are important and appealing. Social networking appealed to me because I enjoy sites such as Facebook and MySpace. It helps me keep in touch with friends that I rarely talk to, even if I go to school with them. People don’t really understand what the media tells them nor do they realize that they are responsible for their own safety. This site was made to inform people about social networking sites so that people will not be judgmental.

Hello there! I’m Patrick, a senior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I plan to attend Louisiana State University in the fall of 2007, and I’m going to major in Business. This is my second year in Webmastering at BRMHS, and my first time entering the ThinkQuest Competition. I am also the webmaster of a business I started with four of my friends called LifeCouture Inc. which can be found at artuprising.com. I am an editor of my Yearbook this year, as well as being on the staff of your school’s annual literary publication, Potpourri. I am of biracial descent, My father being from Minnesota and my Mother Being from Ghana, West Africa. I have been privileged enough to be able to visit my family in both places and I plan to return to Ghana again this summer. I plan to pursue web development jobs in college and later in life and the Thinkquest Competition has been a great deal of fun for me and my group members. Having several friends who have moved to colleges across the US, social networking is an important topic to me because I use social networking sites to keep in contact with friends I would otherwise never hear from again.

Hi! I’m Alex, a 17 year-old senior at Baton Rouge High in Louisiana. I plan to major in Physics or Computer Science because both are of extreme interest to me. I am in my second year of Physics, Computer Science, and Web Design and they are all things I plan to stick with. Other than that, I have absolutely no idea about my future.
Outside of school, I am interested in Pump It Up™, an athletic video game centered on rhythm and “dancing.” Not only is it fun, it is exercise! I also met all of my best friends through this game. Thank goodness for video games! I plan on entering the national competition this year, as I will be old enough for my parents to let me travel without them! Maybe I’ll see you there! I work at Smoothie King™, and I really enjoy that as well. It is great learning about vitamins and supplements and that knowledge helps me all the time!
I have a special interest in this topic because it affects my life daily. I am not particularly social, so online networking is one of the few connections I have to my friends. It is an easy way to get missed assignments, study for tests, conduct polls for projects, and other educational things.
