The treatment of music and dance as separate art forms is a western idea.  In numerous African languages, there are not two terms to describe music and dance as individual concepts.  So, there is one word for both music and dance (the precise meaning of the concepts may differ from culture to culture).
Therefore, African music and dance can be viewed in very close connection because one almost always accompanies the other.  The separation of the arts music and dance is foreign to many African cultures.  In other words, music and dance are considered to be one in the African culture.
