Captain Samuel Bellamy
Samuel Bellamy was born in 1689. His mother died a little while after his
birth. Samuel became a great sailor in his teens. He became a pirate at the
age of 26-27 years old after an unhappy love affair. The girls parents did
not think a sailor was a good enough husband for their daughter. So in 1715
he went looking for a fortune. He captured about 50 ships in only 1
year of being a pirate(that's very impressive!).
Samuel got his nickname Black Sam by turning into a
great and determined pirate. Capt. Samuel's crew was called "Robin Hood's
men and followed a strict set of rules.
The biggest treasure Black Sam found was called Wydah,
a three masted english slave ship and the ship had tons of gold and
silver from the slave trade. Unfortunately for Black Sam, on April 16, 1717
he was on his way to shore with his fleet when a storm came up and sank
the ship. Black Sam and all but 2 of his crewmen sank with the ship.
