Each pin knocked down gets one point for the bowler.
A game of bowling is 10 frames, a frame is 10 pins so knocking over all
the pins would earn a bowler 100 points.
The highest bowling score, called a "perfect game" is 300 points because
of the bonus points.
No strike or spares:
Count the number of pins knocked down on the first and second ball. The
score is the points from the two throws added together.
Spare:
A
spare is when all the pins are knocked down on the first and second roll.
Scores 10 plus a bonus of the pins knocked down on the first ball of the
next frame.
Strikes:
A
strike is when all ten pins are knocked down on the first roll.
Scores 10 plus a bonus consisting of the next two balls rolled on the next
frame.
Tenth Frame:
If a spare occurs in the tenth frame the bowler is entitled to roll one
more ball. If a strike occurs in the tenth frame the bowler is entitled
to roll two balls to finish the game.
