About Us
As Da Ambassadors, our goal for this website was to inform teens about leukemia. Via, this website, Leukemia: A Teen’s Guide, we hoped to inform teens about the leukemia disease. In addition to increasing awareness of this disease, we hoped to provide a personal face to the condition through our first person interview.
We choose this topic because we knew of the disease in name only. We did not know the specifics. As a group we learned, from this ThinkQuest project, that leukemia can be a deadly disease. We learned about its treatments, its types, and the reality that leukemia can be fatal.
Collaboration
Our group worked hard pulling together. We all gave each other tasks and got them done on time. As a group we stayed ahead of the game while pushing each other to finish. We worked very hard to find great information. We spent hours reading medical sites to create a plain Jane version of this site.
The easy things for us were outlining the content, getting permission for the images, and working together as a team. Working together as a team was easy because we all got along and everyone knew each other which made it very easy for us to get a lot of the work done. Research for the content we think as a team was the simplest thing to do because every thing we were looking for was right in our face.
The difficulties we had as a group were trying to keep in touch with other teammates outside of class. It was hard finding first person interviews and getting permission for images. We drafted out over seven permission letters with brief explanations about what we were doing and why we needed their images. After that we sent another email to the website asking to use the image. For example, there was a time when looking for an image and having to fill out an application for the image. The leader of our group had to fill out the application and she didn’t want to fill it out because the application was over five pages that it was like she was applying for college. She filled it out and sent it in for the team. Another difficulty we had was actually designing the website the way we wanted it and a way that we all could agree upon. In the end, we decided on a design which suited all of our interests. We hope you liked it!
