Major Battles of The Revolutionary War
  • Lexington and Concord-(April 19, 1775)This was the first battle of the Revolution. The battle broke out in Concord were American militia started fighting British Regulars. The battle raged all the way to Lexington until the British were eventually driven out.
  • Bunker Hill-(June 17,1775)In the battle of Bunker Hill the British attacked the American occupied and heavily fortified position of Bunker Hill. The British led by General Howe charged Bunker Hill. After hours of fighting the Americans had no choice but to fall back. Even though they lost, casualties on both sides were heavy.

  • Fort Ticonderoga-(May 10,1775)The British took over American stronghold of Fort Ticonderoga. In the night The British scaled mount defiance. When the Americans woke up they were shocked to find British cannons aimed at them. The Americans fled. The British would later burn the buildings inside and abandon the fort.
  • Saratoga-(October 17,1777)This battle Boosted Americans sprits, because at the time Washington was loosing battles in Pennsylvania. This battle was a major turning point in the war .The Americans led by general Gates and Benedict Arnold, made British General, General Burgoyne, and his 10,000 men all POWs.
  • Yorktown-(October 19,1781)This battle was the final battle in the war. The French, under Rochambeau, came and blocked British troops from retreating. The British were outnumbered and had to surrender. It is said that Cornwallis was so ashamed that he had his assistant raise the white flag .
