There are a lot of things that you can do in your kitchen to save the earth. There are many different ways to stop global warming, use the 3R’s (reduce, reuse, & recycle), save water, save trees, reduce the use of electricity, and use solar energy.
Here are some ways to stop global warming in your kitchen.
- Turn off the lights when you don’t need them
- Use fluorescent light bulbs
- Use air fresheners that say “no CFC’s”
- Use Energy Star rated appliances
Here are some ways to use the 3R’s in your kitchen.
- Put #1 or #2 plastics in a recycling bin/bag (look at the bottom or the side at the bottom of the plastic for the number)
- Use recycled paper towels
- Use cloth napkins and reusable utensils
- Use non-disposable cleaning supplies
- Recycle grocery bags
- Throw leftover fruits and vegetables into a compost heap
- Use cloth grocery bags
- Compost leftover food that is from plants
Here are some ways to save water in your kitchen.
- Turn off the faucet (tap) when you aren’t using the water
- Turn off the water while washing your hands
- Make sure your dishwasher loads are full
- Use Energy Star rated appliances
- Dump your leftover water in plants instead of down the drains
- Instead of running the
faucet for cold water, keep a jug of water in the refrigerator
so it will get cold on its own for you
Here are some ways to save trees in your kitchen.
- Use recycled paper products
- Recycle paper products
- Don’t use wood cabinets, use something like metal shelves
Here are some ways to reduce the use of electricity in your kitchen.
- Turn of the lights when you don’t need them or
they are not in use.
- Only use appliances when you really need to
- Use Energy Star rated appliances
Here is a way to use solar energy in your kitchen.
- Use a solar cooker instead of an oven
- Heat the water in your house
with a solar water heater
