Prader-Willi Syndrome is a chromosomal disorder where there is an extra chromosome 15 or a deficiency in this chromosome. Scientists have been trying to identify the specific gene or genes that control PWS. They now have eliminated some genes that do not cause the symptoms of PWS. In some cases a person may show symptoms of PWS but not have the mutated genes. This may happen if a person damages the hypothalamus, a region of the brain that controls most of the autonomic nervous system.
