Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a severe brain disorder. Most people with Cerebral Palsy have trouble controlling muscle movement. This makes even very simple movements difficult. People with CP can have stiffness, absence of muscular tone, and lack of other muscular functions. CP can cause anywhere from a mild to severe ability to preform simple functions. Although some cases may improve, most become worse over time. Types of CP are Spastic, Dyskinetic, Athetoid, Ataxic, and Mixed. One type of CP is not better or worse than the other. The severity of it comes from the significance of the muscle spasms

In Spastic CP, the number one difference from the other forms is increased muscle tone. These muscles sometimes jerk in quick motions. The way this type is classified is by which piece of the body is affected: hemiplegia (half of the body), diplegia (two legs), or quadriplegia (the whole body). Spastic CP is the most common type of CP, approximately 70-80% of all cases.
