Von Willebrand Disease’s symptoms are sometimes mild. This makes the diagnosis and treatment difficult and the disorder may go unobserved. The doctor of the person with von Willebrand Disease will conduct a medical history test to see if anyone else in the person’s family has a bleeding disorder.
A doctor will have to perform many tests to try to track the disorder. One test that the doctor will ask the child to perform at home might be to time the length of nose bleeds and to measure how long the bruises remain visible.
While the patient is in the doctor’s office, the doctor will take blood samples from multiple body parts and send them off to testing facilities. He might also prescribe a medication called desmopressin that may or may not work according to the severity of the disorder.
