Marfan syndrome can not be diagnosed with only one exam. Diagnosis involves many exams with teams of doctors including, a geneticist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and an orthopedist.  The geneticist will ask questions about family history and take skeletal measurements.  Then a cardiologist will listen to the heart and perhaps take a chest X-ray.  The ophthalmologist will perform a “slit lamp,” or a test using light to check the eyes on a microscopic level. Finally the orthopedist will check for joint problems and curves in the spine and chest bones.
