Cri Du Chat Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by an absence of part of chromosome 5, a chromosome which affects cell growth.  This syndrome may cause mental retardation, learning disabilities, and stunted growth.  It affects almost one in every 50,000 people, and though the birth rates of people affected with this syndrome are similar in every ethnic origin, it is more common in girls than in boys.
