William Penn

Quakers believed that by communicating with God and waiting for him they would know his will.  Quakers thought that they could communicate directly with God, so they did not need church services or church officials.  The Quakers also believed everyone was equal. They thought it was wrong to bow to lords and ladies.  This belief caused them a great deal of trouble. They believed in being very plain, wearing simple clothes and using unadorned furniture in their homes. They were also very serious. They did not believe in oath taking or war.
