Germany has had huge amounts of people immigrate to America. Research in 1978 showed that between 1820 and 1978, more than 6,978,000 German immigrants have come to America.  A man by the name of Francis Daniel Pastorius paved the way for German immigrants in 1684 when, after leaving Germany due to religious difficulties, he created Germantown in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was against slavery and made sure of its nonexistence in his town.
