Cuban Flag

Statistics have shown Cuban immigrants in America to be considerably more entrepreneurial than immigrants from Haiti and the Dominican Republic, though all three countries are in the Caribbean.

People from Cuba have been immigrating to the United States for a very long time beginning around 1565 when the city of St. Augustine was established in Florida. Many Spaniards and Cubans alike moved to this city in order to make a new life. Vicente Martinez- Ybor led the way for Cuban cigar businesses by establishing his own business near Tampa, Florida. Other Cubans followed his lead and within a few years, Ybor City, as it was called, became a popular spot for Cuban businessmen and families.
